When Ruth Farenga, Founder of Mindful Pathway, asked me to make a film for her business, I must admit I didn’t know that much about Mindfulness.
Several locations later, trekking with camera equipment through muddy fields and traversing perilous stones in the river (*almost* falling in the water only once), I’ve learnt a few things.
“Mindfulness is paying attention on purpose in the present moment – non judgmentally.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn.
It is something that can be practiced anywhere. This is what inspired our Cinemagraph Time-lapse clip (Below). In this clip, I shot several hundred still photos of Ruth sitting on the bench for about half an hour whilst the world rushed by in autopilot. Although Ruth did sit very still during this time, I used special effects to make her completely still for the Cinemagraph effect. When we say Mindfulness can be practiced anywhere, this includes a City bench right next to the big overflowing dustbins. The things we do for art!
Working with Ruth is always an fantastic adventure and I got to meet family members including Juno the dog, see if you can spot her debut appearance in the film. If you’re from St Albans you may see a few familiar faces at the workshop, including two radio DJs.
We set out to explain the REAL Mindfulness. As Ruth says, you don’t need to read lots of books or watch tons of films, apart from ours obviously ;-). It’s all about trying it out. We hope you enjoy our film and do check out www.mindfulpathway.co.uk for further info. Looking forward to working with Ruth and the Mindful Pathway team on future plans very soon.
