When Waitrose Weekend newspaper called Ren Behan their ‘Cocktail Queen’ this wasn’t without good reason.
At the end of 2016, Ren and I worked together on two festive films. The first was a recipe for two party drinks. An Apple Martini made with Żubrówka & apple juice and a Polish Kir with Cherry Vodka and Prosecco. Ren is a British food writer with Polish heritage and a member of the Guild of Food Writers.
We did several takes for each cocktail which involved a fair amount of pouring out of glasses but luckily for the film we were very professional and didn’t drink all the unused Vodka.
The filming took place in Ren’s stunning brand new kitchen in St Albans. Behind the scenes there was a mix of Vodka bottles and camera equipment covering the new white marble worktops.
Our second film was shot in a stop-motion animation style to show a recipe for open style sandwiches. This film was in fact not shot with a video camera but a is series of still images later stitched together in the editing process. It’s a lot of fun to make and involved several hundred still images to create this effect.
Ren and I have previously worked together on films such as ‘Cake Creation’ which was a film festival finalist and a film for JamieOliver.com called ‘Summer Fruit Treats’ which we filmed in a strawberry field.
It’s always fun working together and Ren’s recipes are not only innovative but also look gorgeous. We hope to bring you more recipe films in 2017.
